At its Strategic Planning and Goal Setting Session on January 26, 2018, the La Palma City Council set a goal to investigate legal cannabis uses in the Industrial Zone due to recent changes in state law.
City staff spent months researching as well as investigating legal cannabis uses and provided an update to the City Council on June 5, 2018, (A copy of the staff report and presentation can be found below). The update included an overview of: (a) current status of state and local legislation; (b) types of commercial cannabis businesses; (c) possible types of regulations on commercial cannabis businesses; and (d) personal cannabis cultivation. At that meeting, the City Council directed staff to bring forward an Ordinance allowing legal cannabis businesses, with the exception of store front dispensaries, in the Industrial and Industrial Overlay Zones, which are located at the north end of the City.
At its June 19, 2018 meeting, the City Council is expected to receive a staff report and discuss a draft Ordinance allowing legal cannabis businesses, with the exception of store front dispensaries, as well as provide an opportunity for all La Palma residents and businesses to be heard and provide oral as well as written comments to the City Council.
