The Section 8 program provides rental assistance to low and moderate income families, elderly and disabled persons who spend more than 30% of their monthly income on rent. The subsidy represents the difference between 30% of the recipient’s monthly income and the federally approved fair market rent (FMR). This program helps to address problems of overpayment and overcrowding. Further information regarding Section 8 assistance is available through the Orange County Housing Authority and Department of Housing and Urban Development.
