TEEN Leaders in Training (LIT)

The workshops are for teens who are 13-17 years old, and are designed to help teens enhance their basic life skills. The topics have been pre-selected and will include various guest speakers. We hope that, with these new or refreshed, skills participants can get that future job or volunteer position. 

  • Applications are due Monday, May 24, 2021, by 5:00 P.M. Please submit them by email to ssoto@cityoflapalma.org.
  • Meetings will be held on Wednesday’s June 9, 16, 23, 30, July 7, 14, virtually from 1:00 P.M. – 2:30 P.M. 

Volunteens (2021 Program Cancelled)

The City accepts 20 teen volunteers (13-17 years of age) that are residents of La Palma (proof of residency is required) to assist our trained Day Camp Counselors each summer at Club La Palma Day Camp and Camp Tiny Tot. Teens must submit an application online and attend an interview. If chosen to participate they must attend weekly meetings and training.

Youth Action Committee

The Youth Action Committee (YAC) works in conjunction with the City of Cypress, La Palma, and outside groups for the benefit of each community and its youth. We are looking for high school students with creative ideas and a desire to enhance teen programs in the cities.

In order to be considered for the Youth Action Committee you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Must be a resident of the City of La Palma or Cypress
  2. Must be a high school and not older than eighteen years of age.
  3. Required to volunteer a minimum of 35 hours for Cypress and/or La Palma events.
  4. Must carry a 2.5 GPA (excluding Physical Fitness) from the 2020-2021 academic school year.

Application must include:

  1. Completed application
  2. Youth Action Committee Requirements Contract signed by applicant and parent/guardian
  3. Cities Minor Release form signed by applicant and parent/guardian
  4. Completed questionnaire
  5. Youth Action Committee Character Reference
  6. 2020-2021 Second Semester or Fourth Quarter report card
  7. Board Member Application (optional)
