Korean Citizen's Academy
Over the last decade, numerous attempts were made to bridge the gap between the established civic groups, City-related volunteer committees, and organizations with the influx of our Korean population with little success.Start of the Academy
In 2006, the Police Department modified the already established Citizen's Police Academy by beginning to teach in the Korean language. The Academy covers various topics, ranging from the law enforcement profession in general, to a vertical view of how crimes are reported, investigated, and prosecuted in court.
The Police Department has arranged field trips to the Orange County Sheriff's Department Training Center that allows participants hands-on training with video simulation, using the same active video weapons used by law enforcement officers during training. The First Graduates
The first graduating class of La Palma's Korean Citizens Police Academy elected their own class officers and continues to meet monthly at or near the police facility, where they often provide law enforcement training by request.
