What kind of shops? Why would they build another Starbucks? We already have one down Valley View?

We as in La Palma do not have a Starbucks. But if you mean we as in Buena Park we have a couple of Starbucks. Massage parlors La Palma has plenty of. Question is why aren't there more businesses opening in La Palma, Buena Park doesn't seem to have problems getting business. Seems like they are aggressively working and seem to be attracting business to their city.

How funny looks like my comments are being edited by someone other than me.

Exactly. I've been thinking we need a Starbucks in La Palma! Is it really going to be a Starbucks between El Torito and Marie Callenders? if not, the old CVS at La Palma and Walker would be a good place for a Starbucks, too! That would be awesome! What is going into the old "Ralpa Beta"?

They are building a Walmart Neighborhood Market at the old "Ralpha Beta". It's supposed to be more upscale than Walmart (yay). They have a construction fenced area in the parking lot and I've seen something happening inside. La Palma citizens really need to do their part by shopping and gassing up in La Palma as much as possible to keep the tax revenue here. We need it now more than ever.

instead of walmart (upscale . . . doubtful), how can we get a sprout, mother's or trader joe's type of stores in that shopping plaza, which by the way, needs MAJOR overhaul.

I agree, we need a Sprouts or Whole Foods type store. We just moved here in September and I have to drive rather far for any of these types of stores. Is there somewhere we can vote on something like that???

I agree as well. I travel quite a distance every week to other cities to shop at Sprouts, Whole Foods, or Farmer's Markets. It would be awesome to see either of these venues come to La Palma. My family eats plant-based only foods, so a REAL farmer's market would be the best. Not a swap meet farmer's market, but a true farmer's fresh/organic fruit and produce market.

As it has been mentioned in other discussions, the City of La Palma would very much enjoy a Sprouts, Whole Foods Market, or Trader Joe’s locating somewhere in the community. However, the City’s role in the type of retail businesses locating in the community is somewhat limited. The City establishes zoning and encourages businesses to consider La Palma; however, the commercial property owners ultimately determine who they will lease to and retailers determine where they will locate. Letting these businesses know your preferences is therefore most important.

Please feel free to reach out to their respective website's and express your desires. You can also friend these establishments at Facebook and post your suggestion on their walls. Be sure to tell your friends and neighbors to do the same as numbers will influence results.

I agree, anything with the walmart name does not equal upscale (in my mind), and I too would have loved to see any of the groceries you mentioned, but it looks like walmart signed the dotted line already which is why they're under construction already. I go to the cleaners in that plaza and the owner told me it will be up and running by March '13... Lets just hope for the best!

I was completely saddened when I saw the Walmart banner. I refuse to shop anywhere affiliated with that place - now I have to avoid it in my own city?! Not happy.

OKay Okay Okay So La Palma residents are by far way too upscale to shop at Wal-Marts. I hope Im reading this correct. Come people just be happy that a grocery store is coming to the city. Don't try and think you're all upscale and to good to shop at a Wal-Mart store. Just remember we all live in La Palma, I don't see Rolls-Royces, Aston Martins, Ferrari Enzos, or Pagani Zonda roadster driving through our city on a daily basis.

Funny, I didn't notice anyone claiming they drove such cars, Thomas.
Walmart has a reputation; both as a corporation, and as a store - neither are positive.
It's ok for us not to be pleased. Stop acting like La Palma is a ghetto, we aren't implying it's Beverly Hills.

it was sad to find out that the new starbucks belongs to buena park rather than la palma so no revenue from that business going to our city!

i love living in la palma and that's why we need to attract shops that will continue to make this city great and special. having specialty stores in town will help define our city as a cooler place to live than other surrounding cities and help attract younger demographics who typically spend more money and will support la palma's long-term economic/social health.
