If the City’s revenues were reduced by 20%, would you support increasing the hotel transit occupancy tax to help maintain important local programs? La Palma’s hotel tax is currently 8%. The area average is around 12% and some Orange County cities charge up to 15%. What do you think would be a fair rate for La Palma’s hotel guests to pay?

We should charge the average at least as long as we would not lose any businesses.

The Occupancy Tax rate in Buena Park is 12% and it is 15% in Anaheim. Next, we need to know La Palma's occupancy rate compared to Anaheim and Buena Park.

Our Occupancy Tax rate should be slightly lower than our neighbors in Buena Park and Anaheim. La Palma is an outlet to the Anaheim resort area. We want to make staying in La Palma an attractive, cost-effective alternative. An occupancy rate of 80% at a 12% Occupancy Tax generates more revenue than an Occupancy Tax of 15% but an occupancy rate of 60%. We could safely set our rate at 11 or 12% and still be competitive.
