If the City’s revenues were reduced by 20%, would you support contracting out City services like Public Works Maintenance or Police services?

Our police does a great job and I wouldn't want them outsourced. While outsourcing may be cheaper at first, it seems to usually result in a reduction in quality and an overall drop in morale for everyone involved. I'm not as familiar with our Public Works but they seem to be doing well also. If our workers are not performing, then it is management's responsibility to lead, inspire and see that they do work effectively.

I agree. Outsourcing our Police Dept
would not be a benefit to the community.

I believe outsourcing Maintenance and Police service will be great idea. Just look at the city of Cerritos and they do not have their own police or fire dept. owned by the city.

As with any organization the employee related expense is the highest and I would not mind seeing them reduced by outsourcing with OC County Sheriff's Dept just like how Cerritos is doing it with LA County Sheriff's Dept.

Also Public Works can be outsource to the County of OC if they have such service or to private contractor.

La Palma is much different then Cerritos. Contracting our police dept. would change our City. Although base costs are less there are other factors to consider

Contracting out police and public works would change the character of our City. Also in my experience with outsourcing employees or services you need stronger supervision to insure quality and best interest of the employer in this case the City. I especially dislike the idea of outsourcing our police services as we currently have a department that knows the City and shows personal interest in maintaining our concepts. La Palma is somewhat unique and would change greatly using contracted services such as police.

I think that we need to look into all areas, as last year the residents only enjoyed 27 percent of the budget for our extra services. We need to cut staff, cut pay, and retirement benefits especially for the top management. They want to raise taxes and cut all our services NO WAY!

Our fire services are outsourced to the OCFA and residents have not voiced or observed any degradation in service. I support maintaining a local police force as long as we can afford that service. If that service becomes so expensive that we are forced to defer or forgoe maintenance, repairs and community programs that residents desire then we need to look at alternatives. What I want and what I can afford don't always align.
